McCain to Call for Battery Prize

CNN reports that Republican presidential front runner Sen. John McCain of Arizona is expected to propose a $300 million prize for whoever can develop an automobile battery that "has the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars."

CNN says prepared remarks released ahead of the event indicate McCain will call for a battery that delivers "a power source at 30 percent of the current costs."
